Balijup Farm and Fauna Sanctuary

Balijup is a special property in the Great Southern region and a vital link in the Gondwana Link. Settled by the Hordacre family in the 1920s, it is now a shining example of landcare in the area.

Balijup Farm and eco-sanctuary from above

Experience flying above a wandoo woodland canopy. This film features drone aerial photography of the Balijup Farm and Eco-Sanctuary in April 2020.

Trees with hollows are vital for the survival of many of our mammal, bird and reptile species. Landholders should do everything they can to keep these trees standing, whether alive or dead.

Birds on the edge: Helping threatened shorebirds

The salt lakes around Cranbrook are a highlight in the Great Southern. This short film showcases community and landholder work to fence and rehabilitate the foreshores of their salt lakes to protect threatened shorebirds, like the Hooded Plover.

Balijup: A jewel in the Gondwana Link

From Green Skills, this film introduces Balijup – a special property in the Great Southern region and a vital link in the Gondwana Link. Settled by the Hordacre family in the 1920s, it is now a shining example of landcare. It comprises over 700 hectares of lakes, wetlands, bush and plantations, as well as 120 hectares of cropland. Green Skills has partnered with the owners on an exciting range of nature restoration, citizen science, eco-art and Noongar cultural projects, as well as the Balijup Fauna Sanctuary.

Giving back to country: Chingarrup Sanctuary

From Green Skills, this film highlights the wonderful ecological restoration and citizen science work at Chingarrup Sanctuary – a 576 hectare bush property near Boxwood Hill.  Conservation landholders Eddy and Donna Wajon have overseen the restoration of 80 ha of cleared land to quality wildlife habitat on the property.
