Farmer, landcarer and Chair of the Gillamii Centre

Farming is a major part of who I am. It’s not just what I do, it’s also a focus of my thinking and learning. I’m passionate about trying to make the land I farm at Tenterden as healthy as possible, for both agriculture and nature. This commitment to landcare led me to join the Cranbrook-based Gillamii Centre, which recently elected me as its Chair, and the management committee of the WA Landcare Network.

My parents were farming in the Kojonup district, on a farm bought by my great grandparents, when I was born in 2000. Six years later we moved to the shires of Bruce Rock and Narembeen to farm and I attended a small primary school at Babakin. After a year’s experience at a Perth boarding school in Year 7, my self-drive and rather free spirit led me back to the farm, where I was homeschooled.

I’m a pretty determined sort of person and I grew up experimenting, inventing and doing. My parent’s encouraged me to explore and gave me responsibilities and opportunities on the farm which meant I had a pretty exciting time.

In 2019, seeking more reliable rainfall, my parents and I moved to a farm in Tenterden where we run a sheep and grain business and apply our landcare ethic.
