Overview
Eagles Heritage is one of Australia’s largest wildlife centres devoted to birds of prey. It was established in 1987 to provide permanent homes for disabled birds of prey whose injuries precluded their return to the wild. It opened to the public in 1998, and the birds now on display are rehabilitation patients, captive-bred birds and some transferred from other facilities.
Twice daily flight displays (at 11 am and 1.30 pm) show the birds’ amazing precision and how they use their extraordinary sensory abilities to track and catch prey. A 1 km self-guided forest walk takes in an impressive collection of eagles, hawks, falcons and owls.
The behind-the-scenes work happens on the seven acres set aside for a rehabilitation hospital and specialised facilities to return sick, injured and orphaned birds of prey to the wild. The admission fees help fund this important work – tourism meets animal welfare.
